Islamabad
Human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari has formally requested CCTV footage from Courtroom No. 1 of the Islamabad High Court, covering the time between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on September 11. She submitted a USB drive with her application to aid the process
This follows a heated exchange during a hearing on removing activist Mahrang Baloch’s name from the Exit Control List. Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar accused Mazari of disrespect and allegedly called her out for remarks made outside the courtroom, including referring to him as a “dictator.” He warned of possible contempt charges, even addressing her husband, lawyer Hadi Ali Chatta, with a veiled threat
She defended her conduct, asserting she was present in a professional capacity, not as an activist. On social media, she emphasized:
“I was there on behalf of my client, not as activist Imaan Mazari… according to professional etiquette (and a court should do the same)
This clash isn’t just courtroom drama—it’s a flashpoint in the ongoing struggle over judicial decorum, activist lawyering, and freedom of expression. Want a poetic or bilingual ticker to amplify this for Indus Daily? I’ve got ideas.
